Helpful Hints

Dry green celery and parsley leaves in the oven until crumbly. Store in covered jars to use as seasonings in soups, stews and fillings.

After cooking rice, place a slice of dry bread on top and cover. The bread will soak up the moisture and the excess starch and rice will be light and fluffy.

Wash fresh pineapples thoroughly before paring. While enjoying your fresh pineapple, place the parings in a pan and cover with water. Cook until soft. Use the strained juice for making jellies.

To keep your clothes from sticking to the clothesline on a cold winter day, moisten a cloth with white vinegar and wipe the line before hanging clothes. 

To save your mashed potatoes from being too runny or limp, add powdered milk to the potatoes. This will thicken them up and make them creamier.

To revive stale bread, rub an ice cube across unsliced bread until the crust is damp.   Bake at 370 degrees for 12 minutes.

If you put to much salt in a recipe, add tiny amounts of sugar until the salt taste disappears. by Kathie Lee

If you stick your finger while sewing and stain the fabric, chew a bit of thread and stick it on the spot.  The spot will disappear.  Works on dried blood too, as long as it hasn't been washed yet. by Kathie Lee

Rubbing with wet aluminum will remove onion smell from your hands. by Kathie Lee

Rubbing hands with whole coffee beans, will remove fish, garlic, and onion smells.

To remove odors from hands, wet them, rub salt on them and rinse. (Charlean)
